Examining the Contribution of Wild Foods to Diets and Nutritional Status in Sri Lanka

In 2013, Zhuo Chai had the opportunity to spend time in Sri Lanka with the BFN project. Zhuo's work involved assessing the status of food security and evaluating the contribution of wild foods to the diets and nutritional status of individuals at the research sites.
Zhuo was involved in the research from the very beginning of the process. She participated in survey preparation, such as designing surveys, training interviewers and pre-testing questionnaires, and then survey delivery in the field. Every step of the process offered Zhuo a chance to bring theory into practice, while learning research skills. During her field work, Zhuo found she made friends from the local university and the field, and found their kindness, helpfulness and hardworking attitude inspiring.
Zhuo thanks Bioversity International and the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka for their support, enabling Zhou to conduct and complete the field survey successfully. Zhuo is also grateful to Danny Hunter and Teresa Borelli of Bioversity International for their guidance during an unforgettable research experience.
