Perennial umbellifer characterized by rhizomes and an erect, hollow and grooved stem. The plant grows in coppice forests up to 750 m.a.s.l. The young leaves are used as a vegetable and can be eaten raw, stir-fried with yoghurt, used in pasties, or cooked with rice and bulgur.
